It is designed on impingment principal and basic function is to separate bulk quantity of bigger oil and moisture droplets from compressed air. The separated oil and moisture gets collected in to sump & further drained effectively by providing suitable drain at bottom.

The moisture in compressed air enters into separator tangentially and further it travels to pass through baffles which will results in spinning of air around inner separator pipe. The water droplets are impinged on separator wall by this centrifugal action.

Thus, separates water droplets from air. Here speed of air reaches maximum at the bottom of separator. Then air enters inner pipe resulting in change of direction, further separation of droplets occurs. Then air will pass through demister pad, here moisture will be separated in wire mesh and small droplets will be separated and collected at the bottom of separator.
